I kept putting off setting up a blog on my site since I didn’t have any previous experience with them and couldn’t really see any reason why I needed one. Then I decided I needed a place to express my opinions and talk about what was on my mind and what was going on in my little part of the world. A way to interact with others.
As someone who had little or no experience with php, mysql, ftp and a few other things I was a little intimidated at first. But, the best way to learn something is by doing it. If you make mistakes, and be assured you will, you can always go back and correct them. Believe me, if I can do this, any one can!
After spending 3 weeks checking out various blogging systems and content management systems I finally decided on WordPress. It has numerous features and is easy to install and set up. I tried B2Evolution, MyBloggie, Bmachine, Serendipity php weblog and Nucleus. I was looking for something simple to use that worked well.
Installation is relatively straightforward. Depending on your server setup, you can use cpanel (which believe me can be very time consuming) or an FTP client. For uploading I use SmartFTP pro which is free for personal use.
(I will be adding more shortly).
