Caution: Although using third party file cleaners helps save you time, be cautious as to what you delete, especially if you're deleting duplicate files. Some file cleaners clean more things than necessary. For instance, Innovative Solutions advanced cleaner wants to delete folder and files necessary for Office XP and 2003 to function properly, and it also wants to delete files necessary for Windows XP to format and copy information to diskettes. Don't think I'm trying to knock Innovative Solutions, because I purchased (and use regularly) Advanced Uninstaller Pro 2006 and Innovative System Optimizer Platinum Edition.
USE CAUTION when using these programs and pay attention to what you're doing. If you're not sure what you're deleting, don't delete it. You may find some programs and/or your operating system won't function correctly if you use them. Set the options of the program to either make a back-up before it deletes everything, or have it send the files directly to the recycle bin. Run your computer normally for a few days to make sure the file cleaner didn't delete something that causes you to crash, or cause any other type of conflict.
If you encounter problems from something the file cleaner deleted, simply undo or invert the items in the recycle bin, or restore the back-up that the cleaner created (if at all possible). If you do have not problems, delete the files from the recycle bin. It's better to be safe than sorry!
